Christian Schemer is Professor for Communication at the Department of Communication of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. His research focuses on media depictions of social groups, e.g., immigrants, refugees, and the effects of these portrayals on stereotypic perceptions and prejudice in the public. Additionally, he is interested in the effects of mediated political campaigns on public opinion. Finally, his research deals with trust in the media. His research is published in international journals such as Journal of Communication, Communication Research, International Journal of Public Opinion Research. He has received several awards, for instance the Kaid-Sanders Best Political Communication Article of the Year award by the Political Communication division of the International Communication Association.
