Václav Štětka

Václav Štětka is Reader in Comparative Political Communication at the Department of Communication and Media, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Loughborough University, where he has been working since 2016. Previously he has held research and academic posts at Masaryk University in Brno, Charles University in Prague, and the University of Oxford. His current research interests encompass political communication in the digital environment, the dissemination and impact of mis/disinformation, and the role of media in fostering polarization and illiberalism, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. He has been contributing to several other international research projects and networks, including Media Pluralism Monitor (European University Institute, Florence) or Digital News Report (University of Oxford). His publications include The Illiberal Public Sphere: Media in Polarized Societies (Palgrave 2024, with S.Mihelj) or Social Media and Politics in Central and Eastern Europe (Routledge 2017, with P.Surowiec). Since 2022 he has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Information Technology and Politics, and since 2019 member of the Committee for Editorial Independence of the Czech media house Economia.
