Claes de Vreese (Netherlands)
Claes H. de Vreese is Professor and Chair of Political Communication in The Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR), University of Amsterdam. He is the founding Director of the Center for Politics and Communication, Director of the University of Amsterdam’s Research Priority Area Communication, and Editor of Political Communication. Finally, he is Adjunct Professor of Political Science and Journalism at the University of Southern Denmark. He is elected Fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy of Science (KNAW) and the International Communication Association (ICA).
His research interests span from changes in political journalism, media effects on public opinion and electoral behavior, news and political participation, news framing, to the impact of algorithms and artificial intelligence on democracy. He currently directs a ERC funded project on the role of the media in citizens’ changing EU attitudes. He has published more than 150 articles in international peer-reviewed journals in communication science, public opinion, political science and social science.
